Native, and quiet about it
Lafza is built with Apple’s AppKit and lives in the menu bar. Keys stay in your Keychain. A small dot rests beside the cursor and only grows when you pause on it, so it never covers your text.
What it adds to built-in Mac dictation
- A clean-up pass that removes fillers and fixes punctuation.
- Speech that mixes languages, including Arabic and Spanish with English, stays as you said it.
- Voice notes from the Share menu or Finder, turned into text.
- You choose the speech service, under your own key.
Requirements
macOS 14 or later. On first run, macOS asks for Microphone and Accessibility permission, which Lafza needs to hear you and to paste at the cursor. A key from a speech service; the setup walks you through a free one from Groq.
Questions
Does it work in secure fields?
No, and that’s on purpose: Lafza never appears in password fields.
Can I use the Fn key?
Yes, Fn and the right-hand Command and Option keys all work as a shortcut, or any combination you like.
